Non Asean Group Tours-Eligible for $10USD VoA

Batam Immigration Head, Yudi Kurniadi has announced that the central government will revise the regulations concerning single rate VoA (Visa on Arrival), and return to a 2 visa system.. "The double VoA system will go into effect on July 1, 2010," he stated on Sunday (27/06/10).

The 7-day VoA will cost $10USD and be available to tour groups from outside the Asean countries traveling in Batam, Bintan and Tanjungpinang. A stay of more than 30 days or below seven days for tourists not traveling with a group will still cost $25.

Yudi stated the $10.VoA for visits of less than seven days can only be used by tourist groups which consist of a minimum of four people. Under immigration rules, a tour group applying for the $10 Visa must show a letter from a sponsor or guarantor (ie letters of tour and travel companies).

Yudi also said he hopes the implementation of 2 tiered VoA will result in an increase in the number of tourists coming to Batam, after a sharp decline which followed the implementation of the of a single rate $ 25 VoA.

Previously, Head of the Batam Tourism Office, Guntur Sakti said many foreign tourists canceled visits to Batam due to the $25 VoA. "Especially golf tours, since they are only in Batam for a maximum of three days, but are charged $ 25 for their VoA," he said.

Tourists from countries that use VoA, he continued, come to Batam via Singapore. Batam is only used as a stopover for foreign tourists who have purchased vacation packages. If the VoA is too expensive, then foreign tourists will be reluctant to travel to Batam.

so, are they saying that ASEAN countries are not eligible even for this? (useless though it still be)

Whole paragraph seems a bit off.
----or I'm misreading everything, being a Monday, could be the latter.

Sounds like a load of CRAP to me......I dont the they realise just how much this has and will affect the torism in Batam. When something works you dont change it just because you get greedy.

7 day visas may drop to $10USD

The new two tiered fees for Visa on Arrival (VoA) for non ASEAN tourists who come to Batam may have vulnerabilities . "The double tariff system is prone to be manipulated by travel agencies," said Head of the Batam Tourism Office, Guntur Sakti on Monday (28 / 6).

Currently, Immigration is re-instituting the two visa system for foreign tourists who visit Batam, Bintan and Tanjungpinang.

The $ 25 U.S. visa is intended for visitors staying more than 7 days or staying for less than 7 days but not as a part of a group.

The $10 visa is to be used by those traveling in a group (minimum of 4 people) and staying for less than 7 days.

Under immigration rules, a group of tourists must show a letter of sponsorship from a tour operator or a guarantor to be eligible for the $10 VoA. Mr Sakti worries about the ability of travel agencies to manipulate the data, allowing tourists not traveling with a group to get the $10 visa.

He has suggested applying the $10 VoA to all non ASEAN tourists coming to Batam for less than 7 days. This would mean no distinction for those traveling in groups.
