Bintan Government to Build International Ferry Terminal

Tanjungpinang, CyberNews.-The Bintan Regency will soon begin construction of an International ferry terminal to serve tourists from Malaysia and Singapore. Construction is set to start in July 2010 in Kecamatan Berakit, Gunung Kijang.

Bintan Regent(Bupati) Ansar Ahmad has said the terminal is designed to support transportation for tourists from Malaysia and Singapore who travel to Bintan, primarily to the tourist areas in the Pantai Tri area.

The estimated budget for the project is Rp 21 billion ($2.3 million USD), to be financed primarily by Jakarta, "the Bintan regional budget will be used for land acquisition only and construction costs will be covered by the National Budget," he said.

Ansara stated that Rp10 billion has already been budgeted for the initial stages which will begin in early July .

"Hopefully, in 2011 we will receive RP15 billion more from the National budget so that vessels can begin to arrive in late 2011,"

In addition to port development, Ansar said, roads, a money changer and other support facilities will be built
