Foreigners caught with marijuana in Batam

TEMPO Interactive, Tanjung Pinang:Two foreign citizens were on trial for ownership of marijuana in two different cities yesterday.

Amran bin Hanif, 48, from Singapore, was indicted for bringing 15.6 tons of marijuana to Batam.

Meanwhile Peter Achim Franz Grobman, 50 years, from Germany, was prosecuted for 8 years of prison and a fine of Rp1 million of fine for bringing marijuana seeds to Bali.

Amran was held for trial in Tanjungpinang Public Court and faces a maximum life sentence.

According to Prabudy, he was arrested in May 30 in Soekarno-Hatta Street, Tanjung Pinang.

At that time, Amran, who was riding motorcycle with his wife and children, visited Ebo’s house.

Amran was arrested when walking towards two sacks said to contain 17 bundles of marijuana, not far from a trench in front of Ebo’s house.

“I have never seen the evidence. So, the marijuana never existed,” he told Tempo in prison, denying the accusations.

Meanwhile, according to accusations read by prosecutor Rindayani in Denpasar Public Court, Bali, Peter was arrested in March in Ngurah Rai Airport.
“After being searched, six small plastic containing dried seeds were found,” said Rindayani.

Previously, Peter flew from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on KLM KL 835.

Upon arrival in Ngurah Rai Airport, immigration officials suspected drugs were in his big bags.

When they searched him, there were no suspicious items in the bags.

But the plastic bags containing 4.9 grams of marijuana seeds fell out after officers stripped Peter’s clothing.
