Naga 2 scores Hess charter

Malaysia-listed UMW Holdings expects to finalise a contract worth up to $183.12 million with Hess Indonesia later this month for the charter on newbuild jack-up rig Naga 2.

The jack-up rig will be supporting Hess Indonesia’s Ujung Pangkah development drilling programme from the first week of September. The contract consists of seven firm wells plus options for another 13 wells. The total value of the rig charter including the optional wells is valued at $183.12 million.

Naga 2 is the first 100%-Malaysian owned and operated jack-up rig, according to a UMW spokesperson. The 350-foot MSC CJ46-X100-D design jack-up was constructed at Drydocks’ yard in Batam.

The jack-up rig was previously contracted to work for PCPP Operating Company, a joint venture among the state players, Malaysia’s Petronas Carigali, PetroVietnam and Indonesia’s Pertamina but the contract was understood to have been annulled due to delays in the rig construction.
