Indonesia’s Small-Scale Entrepreneurs Should not Depend on Singapore

TEMPO Interactive, Batam:An American expert on small and medium enterprises, Ben Casnocha, has said that small entrepreneurs in Batam and Riau should not depend on Singapore or Malaysia for their product marketing.

Dependency makes someone not able to innovate.

“We must be innovative, persistent and trust each other,” said Ben in front of small-scale and medium entrepreneurs in Batam.

He has had his ups and downs when building his business, but now goes on and now he can enjoy his efforts.

“Do not give up easily,” he said.

Small-scale entrepreneurs must be trained.

The training is not just on how to make new products, but how to market, manage and prepare mentally to compete with entrepreneurs from other countries.

Ben said that Americans prefers Indonesian furniture, especially wood furniture not available from anywhere else in the world.

The Head of the Batam Entrepreneurs Association, O.K. Simatupang, said that they have started to take attention of small and medium enterprises since Chinese entrepreneurs want to buy one million ton of coconut shells per year.

“The coconut shells have been thrown away all this time, now they could be sold,” said O.K. Simatupang.

He said that they have participated at the Shanghai Expo and have sent delegations from the Indonesia Entrepreneurs Association.

The company interested in buying the coconut shell is PT China Industry Investment.
