Tuesday, 25 July, 2006 | 13:58 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Muhammad Luthfi, Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), said by setting up Batam, Bintan and Karimun as Special Economic Zones (SEZ) under the one-roof system, that Batam will be the shop window of Indonesia's economy.

This one-roof service is to make it easy for investors to deal with any documents related to foreign and domestic investment. Before investors had to go to Jakarta in order to ask for a license; now they can administer it in Batam. Around 20 bureaus which issue permits have moved to Batam from BKPM, Manpower and Transmigration Department, the Finance Department and Immigration.

“It must be quick,” Luthfi told reporters in the Sumatra Promotion Center building, Batam.

As examples, license administration in 2003 to 2006 which took 151 days has been cut to 59 days. The licenses include domestic investment (PMDN) and foreign investment (PMA) in five days, Limited Importers Identification Number (APIT) four days, import duty facility and approval of machinery/equipment and base commodities/supporting commodities is seven days.
