Governmental Regulation on SEZs to Be Issued Soon
Wednesday, 07 March, 2007 | 16:43 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Muhammad Lutfi, Head of the Coordinating Body for Capital Investment, has said that the government will soon issue a governmental regulation substituting the law that arranges special economic zones (SEZs).

This will provide explanations on VAT that investors have complained about.

“By the end of the month, it will have be on the President's desk,” Lufti said yesterday (03/06).

He said that it was really urgent to issue this regulation since there were not yet any SEZ regulations.

According to Lutfi, investors have been arguing about the lack of regulation for SEZs.

“Investors have stated that VAT should not be assessed on SEZs,” he said.

Lutfi explained that an inter-agency coordinating meeting has decided to support SEZs through the opening of Batu Ampar Harbo, improving the lay-out that may expand industry on Batam and Bintan, and also accelerating the issuance of such regulations.
