Kuku, passing through Batam I was talking with a reasonably friendly Immigration guy. He mentioned something about a "KITAS Index 317" which he claimed is easier to get.

It's supposedly about a KITAS to stay with or to help family in Indonesia. Maybe that "index" he mentioned is like "pascal" or "article", I don't know.

Do you know anything about this Kitas that's supposed to be easy to get? Thanks.

indeks 317 is the "family reunion" visa. it is not a work permit. if you are a foreign man married to an indonesian woman, and if you already have a number of social visas in your passport (actual number seems flexible, and different in different immigration areas), then you can get this kind of KITAS.

oh, nearly forgot the gratuitous plug for Okusi's new Batam office! conveniently located in Harbour Bay (Batu Ampar), just 5 minutes walk to the ferry!

not sure. maybe around SGD10,000 per year, i would imagine.

it's a great location, and will probably displace nagoya as batam's "centre".

you should buy now, if you can. they might still be some available for SGD207,000, but values will rise fast once the new mall opens (probably another 3 month's time).

the development itself is highly strategically located. large hotels under construction. batam's largest mall nearly finished. large outdoor eateries, lots of new bars, apartment buildings in progress ... the place is going to be a magnet both for locals and for people coming in from singapore. the only reason people would want to venture further than Harbour Bay is to go to Lucy's Oar House. and not for the bar. or the food.
